Guide
to better Grayscale
Keywords: Change to black and white, grayscale,
greyscale, tinting, colors, removing, desaturation, desaturated,
withe, noir et blanc, tons de gris, enlever la couleur |

By
using the Channel Mixer, you'll be able to
lift a specific "color" in your black and white image;
giving you more control on contrast and intensity.
This will also be a better source for your Duotone and Tinted
Images.

My
favorite settings are:
R40, G30, B30 for a more neutral B&W
R40, G40, B60 for a lighter shade of blue
R80, G20, B0 for
a more contrasting reds.
Traditional
B&W filter settings
RED: R75,G25,B0
ORANGE: R65,G20,B15
YELLOW: R60,G20,B20
GREEN: R15,G55,B30
For
better results, the 3 channels should add up to "100". |

|
| The
Lab Conversion Method is also another very popular
technique for Photoshop. |
1.
Start with a good (corrected) color image.
2.
Switch to Lab Color >Image>Mode>Lab Color.
3.
Go to the Channel Menu
4.
Delete "a" and "b" Channels.
5.
Go back to RGB >Image>Mode>RGB Color. |

PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS METHOD |
|
1. Create a New Adjustment Layer,
using Hue/Saturation.
|
 |
|
2. Don't change anything and Click OK.
|
 |
|
3. Change the Layer Mode to 'COLOR'
|
 |
|
4. Add a second Adjustment Layer,
choosing Hue/Saturation (see step 1)
5. Move the SATURATION slider all the way to
the left. The image will become monochrome.
You should have three layers: original image
and two Hue/Saturation layers.
|
 |
|
6. Double click on the middle
layer...
|
 |
|
...and Move the HUE slider
left and right until you get the desired tone.
